President's Report

Picture
Ian Roberts President

Welcome to the Newsletter for January 2018.

Welcome also to a New Year.  I hope you all enjoyed the festivities over the Christmas – New Year break and had a great time with family and friends.

Although we have not, yet, had final confirmation of our bookings for the Redgum Hall for the 2018 calendar year, all the indications are that our tenure for the next year is safe.  We have been working on a “Plan B” just in case the Community Centre does not come through.

Our AGM will be held in February this year rather than March because of a clash with the cruise.  If you feel you would like to join the Committee, it is still not too late to put in a nomination.  The Club and the various Committee positions have settled into an “ongoing” mode which means that the roles are not onerous and do not demand a lot of your time.  Nominations need to be with the Secretary (Cathy Turner) by the end of January.

The Christmas lunch at the Waterview Restaurant at Berowra Waters was a great success with 80 members attending.  Judging from the feedback, everyone enjoyed a relaxed and enjoyable lunch.  What a great way to end the year.  The purpose of Probus is to provide Fun, Fellowship and Friendship.  With 21 Activity Groups in place, I feel that we are doing extremely well in supporting the ideals of Probus.  What a great Club we have.

Remember, as always, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact any of the Committee and let them know.
I look forward to seeing you again at the next meeting.

Ian Roberts

Cycling

Picture
I think January could also be potentially too hot for a morning cycle so can I suggest Wednesday 14 February 2018 for an Olympic Precinct / Bi-Centennial Park Cycle?

Our last cycle ride was in November from Rydalmere to Parramatta Park and return punctuated by a light brunch at Parramatta Wharf, all on dedicated pedestrian / cycle track.

Our next ride in February will explore the Olympic Precinct and Bi-Centennial Park, so please feel free to join us as we leave by vehicle from Cherrybrook Community Centre at 10:00am, please note our aim is to provide gentle healthy exercise in a safe cycling environment.

Variety really is the “Spice of Life” so, dust off your bike and helmet, get out the WD40 and join us with your Valentine for coffee and adventure on our next ride, Wednesday 14 February!!

Bruce Bartle & Greg Holmes
Our rides are lots of fun and we keep a gentle pace. Please come along and join our group.

Following a wonderful Christmas party hosted by Bunnings which included a very “easy” (if you have a very creative mind) demonstration on making table centres and other Christmas displays based on floral arrangements.  There was also lots of prizes, a delicious morning tea and a live performance by a very good baritone (who is the son of the owners of Geranium Cottage).

Unfortunately, the Bunnings Garden Group doesn’t meet in January and will resume on 8 February.  Please contact Sue or Lorenza you’d like more details
